While some sporadic problems with any new device are to be expected, we've had a few reports of problems with the latest Zunes and the latest Zune software and thought we'd open thing up and see just how widespread they might be.
The most prevalent problem, such as it is, is an issue with the DRM that is apparently preventing folks from downloading songs from the Zune Marketplace, even though it seems to have no such problem taking your MS points. On a related front, ZuneBoards' lpxxfaintxx has posted instructions for downgrading your Zune software and firmware see below , although it's not clear if that'll do anything to fix the DRM problem.
Reason: The battery needs a small charge to initiate the charging circuit in the zune. When the battery is completely dead, there is no charge to start charging. When you first plug it in, a small burst of charge gets through before the circuit disables the charge as a protection. It associates no internal voltage as a bad or missing battery. So, connecting and disconnecting repeatedly will charge the battery very slightly each time, eventually retaining enough charge to allow the circuit to begin a standard charge.
Your welcome. The radio works just fine; but not the Zune, bought and paid for music. When I plug it to my comp it doesn't recognise it.. I've reset it and still no…original problem was that whole me more dissappear ed but the storage still says all data is there.
Fix Your Stuff Community Store. Microsoft Zune 80 GB Troubleshooting. Edit Options History. Where to start. Assuming your Zune still works well enough to do so, back up anything you want to save before proceeding. Hold both the back and top buttons until the Zune starts to restart.
When it does, immediately press and hold the back, left, and center buttons on the pad. This will cause the Zune to restart again, and display "Please wait," followed by "Clearing contents. Please wait. Check to make sure the hold switch is off before you get too worried. With the hold switch activated, none of the buttons will register with the Zune, and it will appear dead. If you aren't sure which way is off, switch it both ways and try turning on your Zune. Sometimes when you don't use your Zune for a long time, the battery can drain on its own.
Try plugging the Zune in to your computer or an AC adapter. If it comes on and starts charging, you're done. If not, you may need to replace your battery. If the display is pixelated or cracked, or if you can get music to play with a blank screen, the display is bad and needs to be replaced. If nothing happens at all when you power on and plug in your Zune, the problem is most likely the logic board.
A guide to replace this is available here. Press and hold your power button to get the slider, then slide to turn-off. Restart your phone and see if the problem continues. Also, you indicated that your Windows 7 PC normally detects your phone.
What indicates this to you? If you hear the USB subsystem recognizing your device, but Zune doesn't recognize your Phone, then there may be a problem with your profile. The quickest and easiest work-around is to:. Chose the Logoff option under Shutdown by clicking on the arrow pointing right. Start Zune, and after it starts, plug in your phone to see if it's recognized.
If it is recognized, then some aspect of your original profile was interferring with Zune's ability to connect to your Phone, which goes beyond the scope of these forums. Was this reply helpful? Yes No. Sorry this didn't help. Thanks for your feedback. It's beginning to sound like there might be a hardware problem. If you have another phone in your household that can use the same cable and USB port and works ok sync'ing, then I would tend to suspect the phone itself.
Alternately, if you can plug the same phone into a different computer using a different USB cable and still get the same result, then the odds are good that your phone is the point of failure. Be warned, you'll lose all of your media music, pics, video if you try this, so it's obviously a last-ditch effort. You will need Admin privileges to create a new profile.
