There is no competition between the many digital distribution platforms, so prices are rising. More offers and discounts are offered on these platforms. Another factor that has made the PC the center of hardware and software innovation. Games and services are cheaper and many are free. While these problems need to be addressed, a silver lining is that global regulators are catching up with the harmful potential of this mechanism and cracking down on publishers. It will be a slow process, but one that bans loot boxes, or at least restricts the sale that contains them, to audiences over the age of Many modern PC games are being converted into mobile games.
My list of grievances is considerable and obvious. The mobile games industry is the fastest-growing market segment for games. It means going through the same movements countless times while pushing the story forward and improving your character. This is understandable from a business point of view, but from a player perspective it is a predictable, stale environment with little or no variety, and many games have no mechanical deviations beyond what is inherited from existing blockbusters. I would say that craigslist is the last place people look for stolen pc hardware these days.

Metro Exodus, Control, Outer Worlds, RDR2, Sekiro, Disco Elysium, RE2 Remake, Ace Combat 7 , and I'm sure several more that I can't think of off the top of my head right now, all of which came out this year and I don't think any rational person would describe as "derivative, repetitive, hemmed in by politically correct story lines and akin to gambling machines".

Five Nights at Freddy's is a massive runaway success that started on PC, and remains unique and original to this day. JRPGs, sim games, and strategy games continue to have strong titles from indie developers.
Played through Ace Combat It was a little disappointing to what I thought it would be. I think I finished the main campaign in a bit over 30 hours using only the F my favorite plane when I can That proved difficult in the trench run at the end due to the wide wings, rofl. Joined Oct 20, Messages Zero evidence of this great decline has been provided in regards to PC gaming specifically.
It's a poor editorial that selectively picks data from a source that otherwise contradicts it. The only criticism provided and repeated ad nauseum here as some sort of "defense" of the article , is about the quality of games, which could be true BUT actually applies to all platforms, not just PC, and mostly only big-name-dev titles. Anecdotal personal evidence from a search on craigslist or ebay and extrapolating that into some big faulty idea about the used PC hardware market, does not an argument make.

Hardware back then was cheaper also had better marketing and it was more mysterious. Crts framed the reality of games now we have ultrawides which show you more but less at the same time.
Well, they're not. What can we extrapolate based on a report saying Apple sold a lot of iPhones while PCs were selling fewer than expected? That PCs are dead and this time unlike all the other times it won't be resurrected. Because no one has a computer and a phone. It's one or the other. There's a lot to unpack in this article from shockingly just last year, though I'd honestly rather just shove the whole thing in the trash. There's the whole 'back in my day' crap about games not being as good as they used to—PC games were great back then and they're obviously still great now.
The writer calls current games derivative, labeling Fortnite a PUBG clone there should only be one game in each genre, apparently. I agree loot boxes have obviously been a big issue, but there's been plenty of pushback from players and even a number of governments and loot boxes are clearly not going to put PC gaming in a tailspin. Battlefield 5 is called out for trying so hard to be politically correct that it became historically inaccurate—hate to break it to you, but our boys weren't flying into Normandy standing on the wings of planes, as we've been doing for years in Battlefield.
And even despite EA's stock dropping after Battlefield 5 didn't perform to expectations, the company still posted an increase in profit and revenue. This whole article basically all boils down to: I don't like PC gaming as much as I used to, which must mean it's in decline. If I don't like something, no one possibly could. So, look. PC gaming has, and will continue to have, various issues and problems and shortcomings.
Like literally everything else in the world, it's not perfect. But if you want to pull one lesson from decades of people predicting PC gaming is declining or dying or dead, here's that lesson: it wasn't, it isn't, and it ain't gonna be. Just to be fair, PC gaming isn't the only thing that died repeatedly this decade. So did console gaming! Here's proof from the maker of Angry Birds, in John, chief executive of WildTangent Inc. Previous industry concerns about the rampant Napster-like spread of pirated digital copies are also waning as copy-protection technologies improve.
